How to Turn Your Canva Templates into Fillable PDFs for Clients
If you’ve ever purchased a template for your business, like a client questionnaire, checklist, or intake form, you probably want your clients to be able to fill it out digitally. Typing directly into a PDF, checking boxes, selecting options from dropdowns, and even adding signatures can save you and your clients a lot of time.
The great news? You don’t need expensive software to make this happen. Using Canva and Jotform’s Fillable PDF Editor, you can turn your template into a professional, interactive PDF in just a few simple steps.
Here’s how it works.
Step 1: Edit Your Template in Canva
Start with the template you purchased from my shop (or any other Canva template). Open it in Canva and make any customizations you need:
Add your logo or branding
Adjust colors and fonts
Customize to suit your needs.
Step 2: Download Your PDF from Canva
After editing, download your design:
Click the Download button in the top right of Canva.
Select PDF Print (not PDF Standard—this keeps the formatting sharper).
Save the file to a location you’ll remember, like your computer’s desktop or a project folder.
Now you have a clean PDF version of your template, ready to become fillable.
Step 3: Upload Your PDF to Jotform
Next, go to Jotform’s Fillable PDF Editor:
Click Create Fillable PDF Form.
Upload your Canva PDF. Jotform will convert it into an editable workspace where you can add interactive fields.
Step 4: Add Fillable Fields in Jotform
Now the fun part: making your PDF interactive. Jotform allows you to add:
Text fields for names, emails, or other answers
Paragraph fields for longer responses
Checkboxes or multiple choice fields
Dropdown menus for selections
Date pickers for scheduling or deadlines
Signature boxes for client approval
Drag the fields onto your template where clients should fill in information. You can resize, copy, or move fields as needed. This step turns your static PDF into a fully fillable document.
Take a minute to make sure everything looks aligned and easy to use. Check that:
Fields are the right size for typing
Labels are clear and descriptive
Sections are spaced nicely for readability
Even small adjustments make the form much easier for clients to complete.
Step 5: Download Your Fillable PDF
Once everything looks good, click Download → Download Fillable PDF.
Now your PDF is ready to share. Clients can:
Type directly into fields
Check boxes
Pick options from dropdown menus
Add signatures
And all of this works on any device—no printing, scanning, or emailing required.
